Subject: 92 unit poverty “projects” high-rise is $206,522 per UNIT.
Janesville WI Rock County
Council Members,
92 unit poverty “projects” high-rise is $206,522 per UNIT.
$19 million dollars for a 92 rental unit high-rise in downtown – could INSTEAD have been a subdivision of 92 new-construction single-family HOMES.
A $206,522 home has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a full basement, a 2-car attached garage, a large fenced lot, and green terrace with trees.
Would a person rather live in that home OR in a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment high-rise, with no yard, across from the cop shoppe ?
But worse: $14 MILLION of that $19 million was corporate welfare freebee hand-outs.
AND, even worse, for the last 20 years, CDBG (“Community Development Block Grant” $1 million/year) has been used to purchase and demolish 10-12 homes per year in the affordable-housing neighborhoods !!! (“Blight” removal, and “lowered density” OMG) They even illegally outbid investors and landlords to eliminate affordable-housing rental units.
Half these homes were 2-units. SO, OUR money destroyed 200 to 240 homes. That is 300 to 360 affordable rentals, with yards, off-street parking, trees, birds, privacy.
So, this 92-unit projects high-rise only replaces 1/4th to 1/3rd of the destroyed units of affordable housing!!
Epitome of insane government waste and 6-figure bureaucratic job security retention and annual federal waste re-funding strategy. Truly nauseating.
We need our 28 ward stewarts and 280 block captains back!! No more taxation without representation. No more the tail wagging the dog.
